CPROX Administrator Specialty

1.1 INTRODUCTION
This course is a Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation and emergency Oxygen administration combined into one program. It is designed to teach divers the proper techniques to safely administer CPR and O2 in emergency situations. The student will be qualified at the end of this specialty to:
1. Evaluate a victim.
2. Provide one (1) person adult CPR.
3. Be able to administer O2 to a breathing or non-breathing person.
It is important that the student understand that a re-qualification course is required every two (2) years.

1.2 WHO MAY TEACH
Who may teach this course?
4. Any active SDI/TDI CPROX Instructor may teach this course.

1.3 STUDENT – INSTRUCTOR RATIO
Academic:
5. Unlimited, so long as adequate facility, supplies and time are provided to insure comprehensive and complete training.
Confined Water (Swimming pool-like conditions):
6. N/A.
Open Water (Ocean, lake, quarry, spring, river or estuary):
7. N/A.

1.4 STUDENT PRE-REQUISITES
8. Minimum age ten (10).


1.5 COURSE STRUCTURE AND DURATION
9. SDI allows instructors to structure courses according to the number of students participating and their skill level.
Instructors are required to teach and evaluate all the following skills:
10. Emergency O2
Setup and use of O2 bottle
Use of different types of masks
11. Perform CPR on a manikin
ABC’s
Rule of 2’s
12. O2 if needed
Duration:
13. The suggested number of training hours is one (1).

1.6 ADMINISTRATIVE REQUIREMENTS
Administrative Tasks:
14. Collect the course fees from all the students.
15. Ensure that the students have the required equipment.
16. Communicate the schedule to the students.
17. Have the students complete the Liability Release and Medical history forms.
18. The Instructor should review the Liability Release and Medical Forms before starting on the course.
Upon successful completion of this specialty the instructor must issue the SDI CPROX Administrator specialty experience card. The Instructor must:
19. Use either a SDI diver registration form or a Pre-paid Diver certification form to file for the specialty certification card if a SDI certification card is requested.
Award card and certificate.

1.7 REQUIRED EQUIPMENT
The minimum equipment requirements for students are as follows:
20. Manikin.
21. O2 Tank with regulator.
22. The CPROX Student Slate (mandatory).


1.8 REQUIRED SUBJECT AREAS
The following topics must be covered during this course. The CPROX Student Slate is mandatory for use during this course but instructors may use any additional text or materials that they feel help present these topics.
23. What is CPROX?
24. Emergency O2
25. When do you administer O2
A. O2 for non-breathing victim.
B. How to administer O2 through an oro-nasal mask while performing CPR.
C. O2 for breathing victim
I. Non-Rebreather mask.
II. Demand valve mask.
III. Nitrox cylinder/regulator option.
D. O2 safety and handling.
26. Define Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
A. Performing CPR
I. Self-protection.
II. Assess Scene and victim – EMS and statement.
III. ABC’s.
IV. Chin lift and gentle neck extension.
V. Rule of 2’s.
VI. Continue CPR as long as needed.

1.9 REQUIRED SKILL PERFORMANCE AND GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
In order to complete this course, students must:
27. Demonstrate an understanding of oxygen administration and CPR.
28. Recognize and evaluate an emergency situation.
29. Know how to activate or alert the EMS.
30. Be able to provide CPR and administer O2 to breathing or non-breathing person.

Note: The certification is good for two (2) years and must be renewed.
