CPROX Instructor Course

1.1 INTRODUCTION
This course is a Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation and emergency Oxygen administration combined into one program. It is designed to teach instructors the proper techniques to safely teach the administration of CPR and O2 in emergency situations to divers.

1.2 QUALIFICATIONS OF GRADUATES
Upon successful completion of this course, graduates may:
1. Evaluate students on their ability to
A. Recognize a victim.
B. Provide one (1) person adult CPR.
C. The ability to administer O2 to a breathing or non-breathing person.
2. Two CPROX courses must be taught every two (2) years or a re-qualification course must be taken.

1.3 WHO MAY TEACH
Who may teach this course?
3. Any active SDI/TDI CPROX Instructor Trainer may teach this course.

1.4 STUDENT – INSTRUCTOR RATIO
Academic:
4. Unlimited, so long as adequate facility, supplies and time are provided to insure comprehensive and complete training.
Confined Water (Swimming pool-like conditions):
5. N/A.
Open Water (Ocean, lake, quarry, spring, river or estuary):
6. N/A.

1.5 STUDENT PRE-REQUISITES
The Student must:
7. Must be eighteen (18) years old.
8. Must have a minimum certification level of Dive Master or Assistance Instructor

1.6 COURSE STRUCTURE AND DURATION
The Student must able to:
9. Recognize and evaluate an emergency situation.
10. Understand how to teach divers to activate or alert the EMS.
Course Structure:
11. SDI allows instructors to structure courses according to the number of students participating and their skill level.
Duration:
12. Suggested number of training hours is two (2).

1.7 ADMINISTRATIVE REQUIREMENTS
Administrative Tasks:
13. Collect the course fees from all the students.
14. Ensure that the students have the required equipment.
15. Communicate the schedule to the students.
16. Have the students complete the Liability Release and Medical history forms.
17. The Instructor should review the Liability Release and Medical Forms before starting on the course.
Upon successful completion of the course the Instructor must:
18. Issue a SDI Certification card. Complete and submit the Registration Form to SDI HQ.
Award card.

1.8 REQUIRED EQUIPMENT
The CPROX Student Slate and CPROX instructor manual are mandatory for use during this course but instructor trainers may use any additional text or materials that they feel aid in presenting these topics.

20. Emergency O2
A. When do you administer O2?
B. O2 for non breathing victim
C. How to administer O2 through an oro-nasal mask while performing CPR?
D. O2 for breathing victim
I. Non-Rebreather mask.
II. Demand valve mask.
III. Nitrox cylinder/regulator option.
E. O2 safety and handling.
21. Define Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
22. Performing CPR
A. Assess Scene and victim – EMS and statement.
B. ABC’s.
C. Chin lift and gentle neck extension.
D. Rule of 2’s.
E. Continue CPR as long as needed.
23. History of SDI/TDI.
24. Regional Offices
A. Locations.
B. Rules for teaching in other areas of the world.
25. Liability and Insurance
A. Risk Management.
B. Waiver and Releases.
C. Filling out an accident report.
26. Course Standards.
27. Teaching Theory and Methods.

1.10 REQUIRED SKILL PERFORMANCE AND GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
The Student must competently teach divers to provide CPR and administer O2 to breathing or non-breathing person.
28. Emergency O2
A. Set- up and use of O2 bottle.
B. Use of different types of masks.
29. CPR.
30. Perform CPR on a manikin
A. ABC’s.
B. Rule of 2’s.
C. O2 if needed.
Instructors are required to evaluate all the following skills. The student should:
31. Demonstrate an understanding of oxygen administration and CPR.
32. Give one (1) presentation and be graded on the presentation.
